Depression

There are days when you feel a bit down, somewhat out of balance. You feel confused. Sometimes there is an obvious reason for this, but more often there is not. Gloomy, depressing feelings may hit you quite unexpectedly; they seem to engulf you from within. They are not easily reasoned away either, they are simply there! The trick is to overcome them again and to revert to your former happy, stable, self again. So when do we speak of a depression and what causes it?

Depression and its causes

A depression develops when a person is being deprived of contact with the inner impulse of light. This  being deprived of the impulse of light can have many causes. These can vary from continuously bad weather with its gloomy haze, from your partner's mood, actual relationship or marital problems, problems at work, financial problems, illness in your family or in that of relatives, to the passing away of a loved one entailing the unavoidable coming to terms with loss. The causes of depression can be as many as there are facets of life!

Unfortunately, there are also types of depression that are less obvious. To understand this kind of depression - and more importantly - and wanting to heal them, we will have to go further back than our present life in order to find out what caused them. Furthermore, we should look further than man's personality. We should also consider the threefold division of life in personality, soul and spirit and adopt the principle of reincarnation. When approaching the phenomenon of depression from a mystic point of view, it can be divided as follows:

1. Social depression

A social depression is caused by external circumstances in life. A number of these causes have already been mentioned above. They have one thing in common: they are all related to man's personality. They concern his personal life, which, in these cases, is often not going as he would prefer. If such a situation continues long enough, man loses his faith in life, which causes the breaki down of the flow of life within him. As a result, he will be deprived of his impulse of light. As a consequence man becomes gloomy, lacks energy and loses his zest for life. In short, he becomes depressed.

A very important cause of depression nowadays also lies in our present-day hectic, overburdened existence. A person who has to conform to material stimuli continuously can become so consumed by these stimuli that there is no space left for spiritual life, spiritual charge, whereby the flow of life within (the impulse of light) comes to a standstill. As a result he becomes exhausted (burned out) and when this continues long enough he loses his zest for life and, consequently, becomes depressed.

2. Psycho-social depression

Besides social depression, evoked by personal circumstances in life (man's material blockages), psycho-social depression exists. This is caused by man's inner spiritual state of being. The causes lie within the many spiritual blockages preventing man from shaping life as he would like to. These spiritual blockages can occur on different levels. They can, for instance, be caused in present life, but there are also blockages that were caused in former lives, and in order to be able to heal them they will therefore have to be approached from that level: the level of the soul. The psycho-social depression is, for instance, caused by dissatisfaction with yourself or by the fact that you are actually living, or because of deep inner fears such as fear of failure and fear of life, resisting life, having feelings of guilt etc. These range from minor dissatisfactions to very fundamental ones.

Not every psycho-social depression will be easily recognized as such. To give a few examples:

a. Karmic depression

Psycho-social depression also includes the depressions caused by man's inability to get a grip on the excess of karmic baggage, which leaves him involved in vibrations originating from former lives. As a result, he becomes quite exhausted. Moreover, he cannot accept his life full of misery and loses his motivation for living. He will then try to avoid life more and more which he can do by completely turning away from life or by just enjoying the pleasures of life as much as possible. In both cases the process of cutting off the flow of life will be activated. This form of psycho-social depression is called karmic depression.

b. Addictive depression

Another form of psycho-social depression is evoked by the many forms of addiction known in life. Besides wanting to avoid responsibility for life, an addiction is caused by  matter's grip on a person. Both causes will stagnate the impulse of light, the flow of life, through which depression is born. Minor forms of depression, such as, for instance, addiction to watching television have depressing effect on man as well. Addiction to watching television may be one of the most important causes of depression, certainly for elderly people. More so, because in addition, watching television brings a heavy mental burden! The minor forms of addictive depression can mostly be dealt with by man, but in more severe cases - because he is being drawn into matter more and more, he can allow very little light as it is and due to his already reduced flow of life through depression - dark powers can affect him with all its catastrophic consequences.

c. Victim depression

Another very frequent but less disastrous form of psycho-social depression is the victim depression. This is caused by the fact that a person lacking positive confirmation eagerly acknowledges himself by appropriating the role of victim. Through this he severely reduces the flow of positive feelings of happiness in life. His light impulse cannot reach him properly anymore, whereby depression comes into being.

The above-mentioned examples of psycho-social depression notwithstanding, the description of this category is not exhaustive. This article merely seeks to contribute to the growing awareness that the phenomenon of depression asks for a more elaborate approach than is currently adopted by the orthodox medical world. It wishes to contribute to promoting openness to a holistic approach that reaches beyond the here and now. It also wishes to draw attention to the new possibilities of treating diverse forms of depression that are actually essential for the treatment of the third level of depression; structural depression.

3. Structural depression

The most severe form of depression, the structural depression, originates from traumas deeply embedded within man's mind. This form of depression has nothing to do anymore with the traumas of present-day life, nor with the minor traumas of previous lives. It originates from the most severe traumas inflicted in former lives. In many cases, it is connected with what happened at the time of Creation, in which many primordial traumas may have been acquired. When suffering from a structural depression, a person is often cut off completely from the information stored within his soul and his higher spirit due to the severity of the underlying trauma.

A structural depression lies anchored deeply within the genes and is above all characterized by the fact that the trauma has gnawed so deeply into man's being that considerable damage built up in his spiritual tissue. Examples of structural depression are: manic depression, hypochondria, rejecting life (being inclined to suicide), etcetera. Diseases such as anorexia, psychosis and phobias are also related to structural depressions.

The various forms of treatment

The treatment of a depression depends on the kind of depression we are dealing with. The level of consciousness determining the blockage of the depression also determines the way in which it can be dealt with. Now that the Aquarian Age has set in and the Source of Life has been disclosed within man, the deepest traumas can also be treated. This is also true for the most severe primordial traumas originating from the time of Creation. These traumas can be re-created through the highest creative power of man: the power of transmutation. Nothing stands in the way anymore for the depressed person to be healed. Because of the onset of the Aquarian Age, a way to heal even the most severe, structural depressions has been found!

In increasing order of consciousness, a depression can be remedied through: anti-depressive and psycho-pharmaceutical medication; regular therapies with for instance the social worker, the psychologist and the psychiatrist; the process of increasing awareness; alternative therapies; the transformation of the impeding karma through the power of creation; working with the new teachings of the thirteen chakras; the healing of the spiritual being (light-being healing) and the transmutation of the deepest primordial traumas through the power of creation.
